Pedro Alvarez was born in Chile, in 1980. He studied Composition, Viola and Philosophy at Universidad de Chile, obtaining Licentiate and Master degrees in Composition in 2004 and 2008, both awarded with "Highest Distinction".


He continued studies in composition privately with James Dillon in London in 2006. He has also attended to courses and masterclasses with Zsolt Nagy, Helmut Lachenmann, Emmanuel Nunes, Julio Estrada, André Richard and Alvise Vidolin, among others.


  Alvarez has been commissioned works by the Chilean Arts Council (Fondart), the National Music Founding (Fonmus) and the Laboratory of Musical Technology (LATEM, PUC). In 2007 he was awarded a scholarship from Universidad de Chile to pursue a research residence at the UNAM in Mexico. In 2009 he received a scholarship from the Chilean Government to pursue PhD research in London.
